Uppsala Top 5

Due to my talent of listmaking (who could forget the 'homo top 50?'), I thought I would make the top 5 things that make life in Uppsala wonderful!

5. Study Pressure

(or lack thereof). I was stressing out back in Groningen, but here, the deadlines just don't seem to have much effect on my stresslevels. I have two papers due in end of march/middle of May, and one fake exhibition to organize (!) before the end of May. Okay, there is still my master thesis of music science which needs to be finished, but I'm working on it. Not too hard though.

4. Clothing Library

Have you heard of a place where all your dreams come true? A magical land of smiling faces, babies (so many babies!) and unicorns, mixed with the glitz and glam of FASHION? It's the Clothing Library at Kalmar Nation! Pay 20 crowns (around 2 Euro) and enjoy a lifetime of free clothing. My catches untill now: supercool american apparel raincoat, comfy stylish heterosexual sweater, striped T-shirt that screams 'boat person'. Too bad you have to return them within 2 weeks.

3. Weather

Sweden in February/March? Freezing weather, snowstorms and dark, windy nigts you say? WRONG! Okay, we had some of our minustwentysomething temperatures just 2 weeks ago, but right now, mother sun is giving out beaming rays of sunshine every f*cking day!

2. Peepz.

Of course, the people here are great too (and beautiful!). When I lived in Sweden before, I often complained about the boring people that were too afraid to say anything, but those were islanders! In student city Uppsala, people seem to be more social. I just had a cake with my roommates Marie (it's her birthday) and Elaine, and my other roommates Olov and Rajesh (though not Swedish, but that does not matter) are very nice too. My classmates, mostly unswedish, are awesome, though we mostly meet just in class and occasional fika (though soon we will have more house parties, like Melodifestivalnight at Helen's). Oh, and soon i'll start a Japanese-Swedish language exchange with Natsumi too :).
Most of my friends are international students. I mostly hang out with my Austro-Ameri-Canadian pals, in no particular order: Lucy, Regan, Izzie, Dorothea, Margot, Gary, Jessica, Marcea. Look them up on facebook if you must. Oh, there are also pictures on facebook ;). Sorry if I forget people.

1. Sundayfika

Ahhhh. The absolute number one. Who needs friends if you can have cake? And even the better, combined with friends (and the clothing library!). Every sunday, Kalmar nation has vegan-friendly fika (which roughly translates into eating-way-too-much-cakes-and-overdosing-on-coffee). It's the best day to chill out with your hung-over buddies for hours and hours and do nothing but talk and eat. Followed by possible o-sushi or music-making.

And a top-5 would be nothing without a top-3 of miserable things in Uppsala. Here goes!

3. no Groningen/Utrecht/Franeker

I miss you guys!

2. prices

Seriously, 25 euros for a bottle of vodka? 2 euros for a zucchini? 1,20 for a coffee from a machine? Aaargh! If anyone knows a good job for this summer, please tell me, i'm becoming poorer every day!

1. Libraries

When I first came into the university library, I was like 'woooow I'm in love!'. Now I know better. The comfortable couches and available computers everywhere don't nearly make up for THE NOISE! Why is it allowed to talk very loud in all libraries here? People are even CALLING! Like, booking air tickets, exchanging gossip and EVERYTHING whil your supposed to work on your paper/read an article about russian immigrants in the baltic sea region. Not helpful.

Alright, love you guys! I hope someone reads this, haha. Tell kme about your lives! Mine is pretty good right now :). This weekend choir weekend, YES! Hahahaha. Bye!

    Janna:

Haha Albert, you tricked me into reading your blog with this top 5;) I have one question... is it quiet in the clothing library? Why don't you just pick a serious outfit then and study there?

I guess in two weeks we will have our own top 5:) Enjoy life over there!
