Earlier cheap-things-news: Jojo and I got some bikes. FOR FREE! It took a while to find the recycle center in the mountains where we could fix bikes and take them with us after, but we persisted and now we have awesome bikes. I also made a video, so if you haven't watched it yet: it's here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Qz6S9fHz8
Next to getting cheap or free stuff, the past week has mostly been about starting school: we had our first classes this week. Jojanne and me, together with our Euroculture classmates Beata and Delilah, followed classes in Japanese thought, Japanese music, Japanese Culture and Japanese language. Very Japanese indeed! We met some new people in our classes, Japanese as well as foreign. We're craving for a social life that's bigger than 4 people, so hurray for us! The classes themselves are sometimes interesting, sometimes less interesting, but most of them seem quite manageable. We don't have a lot of assignments, which is great: we have time for more adventures! We're thinking about going to Tokyo and climb Mount Fuji, but we haven't arranged anything yet.
On saturday, our friend Hitomi took Jojo and me to see some sights, most importantly the Osaka aquarium. It was amazing! The aquarium's star is a huge shark whale, but I found the giant manta ray (reuzenmanta of pijlstaartrog) way more impressive. Also, I loved the otters and dolphins and the little squid. I felt a bit bad that they were held capitve, but they were so beautiful! Also: squid, sorry I ate a whole bunch of your kind since moving to Asia. You're just too damn tasty.
On Sunday, Jojo and I went to the TEDxOsaka conference. It seemed really interesting, but most talks were in Japanese, unfortunately. However, it was still really cool to see a presentation done by two androids. Also really creepy. Oh Japan.
In the evening, we biked an hour to find our first international student party. We were a bit red and sweaty upon arrival (Google Maps didn't say anything about any hills you have to bike up!), but after freshening up, we made a lot of new friends and had a blast. Biking back was a bit of a challenge though, as the wines and beers had troubled our sense of direction (which wasn't really that great to start out with), so we ended up biking for 2 hours through nightly Osaka. It was very special though. And we survived. Yay for us!
I am starting to miss you guys a bit, but it's great to hear from so many people on facebook and through e-mails (and even videos! TSM Daim Gurlll!). I'll keep you posted, and we'll talk soon again!
hugs, kisses,
Arubato.
PS. I bought tickets for Australia! I'm leaving mid december for 3 weeks, hello beach birthday party!
